What is this “digital pension”?

Since the Digital Revolution, which meant the end of the Industrial Age and the beginning of the Computer Age everything became “digital”: your photos, your music, your TV…

One of the biggest changes that influenced our lives was the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989. Today the Internet has become the ultimate place to accelerate the flow of relevant information and the fastest growing form of media. It also became the biggest marketplace of the world: people are spending hundreds of billion dollars online.

In the same time we realized that the retirement income of the Baby Boomers is in danger and that we need to do something about it to secure a dignified retirement. In this “digital era” the only way to achieve this is to use the most advanced technology: the computer and the internet.

That’s how I coined the term “digital pension“.

We could have called it internet pension as well, or online pension… the idea is the same. If the retirement income is not sufficient — as I demonstrated in the free report The Baby Boomer Pension Crunch — then we have to generate additional income using the technology of this digital era.

On my own computer all the files related to this issue are saved in a folder named “internet-pension-generator”. To learn about the content of that folder, download your copy of my free report about the Baby Boomers’ Pension.

I am really proud that I invented this term of digital pension. I think it describes exactly what this site and all my related work is about: helping my fellow baby boomers to create, generate an online income that would complement their retirement income.

My name is Istvan Horvath and I am the founder of DigitalPensionCom, you could say it is my brainchild. I am a passionate advocate of the Baby Boomers’ pension cause.

I am a Canadian born in Transsylvania, the land of legends and thrilling myths. An interesting place for tourists and a miserable place to live at… I am coming from a place where the small shop and store of my grandfather has been nationalized by the Communists. Nationalization means it was stolen from us officially. And he died a few years later. Then came my father’s turn. In the world of the free enterprise he would have been a millionaire: he was a born entrepreneur. Over there he went to jail because he didn’t play by the communist rule. I ran away from that country, started businesses, did humanitarian aid work in war zones, had an interesting life.

I am a Baby Boomer (just like you) and I have been working on three continents in several countries. I did a good job, believe me. Worked a few years and moved on. Never thought about pension or retirement. Had enough money and spent it. Some countries just disappeared (or got divided like the cells). Wars. Records lost. Even if there are records in their economic situation a pension would be worth maybe an average dinner in North America where I live now.

Then I started to work in Canada where we have a state pension, called Canadian Pension Plan (CPP). After a few years one day I got a letter from these guys that take away about half of my income (they call it tax) that if I continue to contribute to the pension plan with the pace I did till then - my pension will be 73.50/month. I was shocked and humiliated. That was the first moment I started to think about my retirement.

You see, I was finally at the place that is the dream, the promised land for every poor person around the world: North America. Freedom, free trade, free enterprise. Paradise… until the day you receive that letter saying your pension will be 73.50.

In that moment I knew I had to do something about it. Meaning I have to take it in my own hands.

I have been on the internet since the mid-nineties and started to make money online a few years ago, in many different ways. So, it was quite a logical step to start thinking about getting more involved with the digital world to make sure that my financial future would look better.

For the record I have to add that I worked in the financial services and according to my company’s slogan we were helping people to get out of debt and to retire financially independent. And whenever I met clients of my age after seeing their desperate financial perspectives for the so-called “golden years” of retirement, I felt frustration, anger and helpelessness. In 99% of the cases it was already too late to set up a decent retirement savings plan - as you can read about this in my free report titled The Baby Boomer Pension Crunch. I wanted to help them but it wasn’t going to happen. Even when I was able to do something for them - it was just the proverbial drop in the ocean…

Then the former humanitarian aid-worker’s spirit took it over: I wanted to create a tool that would help all my fellow Baby Boomers to achieve a decent retirement income. Not only in my chosen country but all over the world. Next, the DigitalPensionCom has been born. It is an umbrella organization that keeps together my Baby Boomer websites and publishes my works.
